Stretch Therapy

Stretch therapy is a treatment method relying on the therapist to move the particular body part of the client into a certain position and their end of joint range. This targets the soft tissues, such as the nerves, muscle, fascia, tendons and ligaments and lengthens the tissues to a point of tension release. The therapist will hold the stretch for a certain period of time to allow a sufficient stretch on the targeted tissues.

The Importance of Stretching

Stretching is vital and most people lack a good stretch routine. Most athletes say there’s not enough time to stretch or they forgot, or, they don’t have the patience to go through such daily rituals, and then for some they simply don’t know how to stretch certain areas and how long to hold the actual stretch for. At Integrated Body Therapies all the therapists are fully trained in muscle manipulation and know how to target the areas of concern. The stretching may be Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), or simple Static Stretching.

Enhancing You

Ultimately our goal is to heal the tissue and enhance your sports performance. Stretching can release stress, maintain the elasticity of the soft tissue, facilitate blood circulation - allowing more blood to enter the muscle, reduce local swelling and bring waste out and nutrients in, and to promote tissue healing of the muscle fibres. Finally, stretching will help manipulate fascia into a better alignment, increase your Range of Motion (ROM), and keep your body flexible and ultimately energetic. So how can we ignore all these benefits? Allow one of the therapists at Integrated Body Therapies to get you started on a stretching program.
